Hailed as ‘pure genius’, ‘superb’, and ‘funny as hell, brave as a motherf****r’, The Game: Redemption is back by public demand. For just five nights join legendary coach Frik Du Perez (Milton Schorr) and the giant female player Tatiana Romkova (Brendan Murray), as they face a shared secret that has haunted them all their lives.  Improvised according to a set story-line, every performance of The Game is one of a kind and never to be repeated, creating the on-the-edge energy that has made this show notorious.    The Game is long-form improvisation, with balls. It was first performed in Cape Town in June of 2009 before travelling to the Grahamstown Festival, where it received the worst review in the history of humankind. \"A waste of time and money..\', \'I felt embarrassed to be a part of the human race…\' and ‘no game, no talent, no storyline’ are just a few snippets from that landmark text.   As with all ground-breaking theatre real opinion was divided. \"It was like being on a f*****g roller coaster”, \"shock and awe\" and “I’ve never seen a group of people laugh this hard” were a few of the impressions gleaned.   That first review went on to form an integral part of the saga. Fueled by its unique improvised style The Game has continued to challenge audiences with its gut wrenching humour and searing subject matter, earning the franchise a cult status.   After a blazing debut at the Alexander Bar earlier this year, and following hot on the heels of the wildly successful Shannon’s Tongue, The Game: Redemption is back by public demand.

Audience Responses

Lots of laughs ... highly experimental in nature but the energy from the actors was consistent, highly respect what they do! great intimate venue too

It was a highly entertaining, very funny show. A great relief to laugh at something other than our politicians!

Some interesting themes but should not be advertised as a comedy unless the nudity is deemed as the comedic aspect which is unintelligent to say the least.

The Game: Redemption is a tragicomedy without pretence. Through the characters of Tatiana and Coach Frik, Brendan Murray and Milton Schorr had the audience in tears, as they shared their joys and sorrows. The intimate venue worked well to make the audience feel included in Frik and Tatiana’s conversation. You leave feeling light, but acutely aware of the importance of family and the potentially devastating effects of loneliness. Definitely worth seeing.

hmmm I loved Shannyn's Tongue, and realise the actors take dangerously huge risks when they choose to play together spontaneously as in this style, and that some performances work brilliantly or not as a result. The show we saw last night had it's moments but ultimately was not as satisfying... sorry, hope that doesn't discourage fabulously brave work ... love you guys... and keep up the wonderful venue, ambience and treats you serve

I would have liked to see the stage done a bit better. But that is only me. The performances where very good and the use of the backstage with only the voices was done very well. On the whole I would recommend anyone to see it.

Compared to the previous time, ....lacking in humour and lacking subtlety
