The film is a visceral noir documentary film telling the story of a Cape Town ‘car guard’ by the name of Richard. It delves deeply into his insights about life, politics and spirituality. It is a self-reflexive study of how A.L.V relates to his personal friend Richard, and the on-going battles that pertain to the spirit, the poor and the neglect of marginalised people by South African society. Over three chapters, the film dissects controversial subjects around Apartheid, Christianity, Jacob Zuma and everything in between.

The screening will also debut A.L.V’s music videos and never-seen before trailers.

Amani Lenny Vallihu . A.K.A . A.L.V is a multidimensional artist who directs and edits films, music videos and produces sound. Throughout his career, A.L.V has collaborated with a host of artists as well as co–founded the visual representation art house Project NOW.

Audience Responses

Swanky venue masked a thin concept in the main feature. ALV is very talented, but he should be careful not to exploit his subject and slap on his contrived brand, for the ideas are not his own. In this respect, ALV's presentation is dishonest and flippant. To denigrate the work as ironic would be to exacerbate the problem. Richard himself touched on some raw nerves and his quirky views carry a lot of weight in current discourse. Very poor sound and video control by the person in charge (Umlilo) to the disservice of the artists.
