Nicky Schrire is an award-winning vocalist and composer. She has performed in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, London, Dublin and South Africa with musicians ranging from Sibongile Khumalo and Arno Carstens, to Grammy-nominated pianists Gerald Clayton and Gil Goldstein. Compared to songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and Tori Amos, she has performed extensively with cellist and founding member of Sterling EQ, Ariella Caira. Recent highlights for the duo include the 2015 Folk ‘n Acoustic Music Festival, and a double-bill with Beatenberg frontman Matthew Field. They are thrilled to be joined for this performance by friend and drummer Kevin Gibson (Prime Circle, Lucy Kruger, Winston Mankunku).

Great night. Beautiful intimate venue, lovely music

Loved i! Lots of lovely new songs – beautifully performed by Nicky, whose guitar work is also excellent, while Ariella plucked, bowed and generally provided soulmate and musical rapport; enjoyed Barry van Zyl playing the telephone book! (I mean, I’ve heard of singers being told they can sing the telephone book but a musician actually playing it!) Hope Nicky will not forsake jazz but in the mean time she's building a great songbook of original and perceptive songs. As a performer, she has great rapport with audience.

Hi, as you know by now, I am am always more than happy to let you know my thoughts on a recent performance. Unfortunately last night, both my wife and I had just prior to visiting the bar, been to the dentist and neither of us felt much like going out!! Nevertheless, Nicky, Ariella and Barry did not exacerbate our discomfort! The genre of music is not our favourite, hence the mediocre rating but a visit to your venue is always pleasurable, whatever we see, just sometimes more so than at other times!!
