180mins

Attention legal support staff, bookkeepers, accountants and lawyers: LawPracticeZA, the online legal software app, provides comprehensive and integrated business and trust accounting for South African law firms, in addition to matter management and billing. This workshop deals with all aspects of business and trust accounting for law firms, including disbursements, bank reconciliation, trust transfers and Section 78(2A) investments. We'll also cover financial and management reports and go over what controls are in place to maintain accuracy and integrity.

This workshop is for anyone performing a legal bookkeeping role whether they have trust accounting experience or not. This workshop is also for lawyers who themselves are required to have a good grasp of business and trust accounting, as highlighted by this extract from this June 2018 de Rebus article:

“The legal practitioner remains responsible for the accounting records of a legal firm and must ensure that the accounting books prepared by the accountant or bookkeeper correctly and accurately reflect the activities of the firm, both from a business and trust perspective. This therefore calls on the legal practitioners to review the records that the accountant or bookkeeper has prepared, as they are ultimately responsible for these records, though not physically prepared by them”.

The fee for the workshop includes tea and coffee and a light lunch (vegetarian option available). Please reply to the confirmation email if you have any special dietary requirements.
