Mother City Sketch returns to the Alexander Bar for more live original comedy skits performed by The Long Shots improv comedy troupe and special guests!
After their previous sold out shows it’s time to bring back some audience favourites and a few new sketches and characters you’re sure to love! This collection of short sketches pokes fun at gym classes, the habits of dating, wine tasting, loadshedding and much more.
Mother City Sketch is devised, written and directed by The Long Shots with additional material by Jessica Munna and Robin Hitchcock (previous Long Shot and member all-female troupe Frankly Scarlett based in Pittsburgh, USA). MCS is the love child of Robin Hitchcock. She wrote, directed and performed in the first one and now it continues to live on while she’s away.
The Long Shots, who comprise the core cast of the show, have been performing improvised comedy in Cape Town since 2011, and are thrilled to branch out again into scripted material.
Starring André Dinomancer Ballot, Rob Coutts, Pags Bantwana, Jason Delplanque, and guest appearances by Jessica Munna and Al Postman.

Audience Responses

Stunning, despite being an hour long production put together in just over a month. Laughed my tits right off. Hanging with the actors in the bar was an added bonus. Cocktails were a bit pricey for what they were.

One or two of the sketches were quite funny, but all could have benefited from a more well-prepared execution.

Perhaps, because we are of an older generation, we thought the humour was very amateurish, lacked subtlety and the scripts were weak. Performances lacked any kind of polish, but the material didn't help them. There were one or two exceptions for whom there may be a future in acting. The younger generation attending responded better than we did. It was our first visit and we enjoyed the venue.

It had its moments, and it is always a pleasure to be at the Alexander Bar, but I'm afraid the laughs and quality of performance was sadly lacking. Perhaps MCS needs to find a really good comedy scriptwriter because it is not easy to make an audience laugh. Keep trying MCS,but last night was a bit embarrassing.

Brilliant show. Would be great to see more comedy at Alexander Bar, eg. some improv comedy shows and more of Mother City Sketch

The Long Shots team are great. I have heard so much about them from friends and was desperately keen to see them. I was expecting actual improv, but today my girlfriend and I were talking about the show and there were some great skits that we enjoyed. Actual improv next time. What an amazing venue.
