Join Paulo Costa on a journey through his latest compositions: a fusion of Samba and Jazz, interwoven with South African scents; inspired by contemporary Brazilian and international music. His music reflects the challenges of modernization without losing roots and genuine human connections, moving into the feelings that listening to the world engenders, and finally bringing one to a place of presence with the environment around us.

Paulo is a musician and a composer born in São Paulo. He has been  surrounded by music since childhood: his mother is a pianist and his father is a clarinettist at church. He started playing clarinet at the age of seven and, four years later, he became interested in the guitar as well. He took classes with music teachers as a child and at the age of 17 he left the church circle and joined his first band. In 2013, returning from his first trip to South Africa, he released “Ndiphilile”, an EP of his own compositions mixing Brazilian and African styles.

Paulo has been part of many music projects, recording and performing with multiple bands. He is now a multi-instrumentalist musician, his style influenced by a combination of Brazilian and international music. Since moving to South Africa in 2017, he has been collaborating with local musicians: Paige Mac, Jack Mantis and others. He also works with a fellow multi-instrumentalist, providing live music at weddings and corporate events.

He is currently working on some new compositions: an album of 8 tracks that is being produced and recorded in collaboration with “Home Grown Music” (Knysna) and talented South African musicians. The songs are a combination of Samba and Jazz, a genre that he likes to call “Jamba”.

“A saudade é inspiração nos desafios da vida” (The love for what you miss and homesickness inspires one during life’s challenges)
