Aletia Upstairs and Ster Sigrun Paschke, both from Cape Town, have been working together for ten years. Although Aletia lives in London and Sigrun in Berlin, they have performed their multi-lingual, jazz, cabaret, world and original music in all three cities. Their journeys, which occasionally allow their paths to cross, are illustrated by their songs. These urban gypsies have both composed, recorded and produced individual solo albums. Tonight is a celebration of their intertwined lives and the best music they have produced over the last ten years.

Aletia Upstairs is a performing artist, cabaretist, singer-songwriter and vintage songstress currently doing a PhD in Performing Arts based on creating work in response to archive material. She is interested in auto/biographical, verbatim, participatory and one-to-one performance. With a background in theatre and world music, she uses multiple languages, intercultural performing arts, original music, poetry, stand-up comedy, puppetry, multi-media, historical and fairy tale references in her work. Sigrun Paschke is a pianist, accordionist and composer (Stellenbosch University and Hans Eisler Hochschule Fuer Musik, Berlin graduate, majoring in piano and organ). She has extensive experience as a soloist, accompanist and ensemble as well as band member, playing classical music, jazz, cabaret, Balkan- and African music.
