V-DAY 2016; An updated version of 'The Vagina Monologues.' The award-winning play is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humour and grace, the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. Sugar-daddy Theatre Company will donate all V-DAY proceeds to charity; Rape Crisis, MOSIAC & Saartjie Baartman.
World famous writer and activist, Eve Ensler, used her dynamic and powerful play 'The Vagina Monologues' amongst other works, to start her grassroots campaign V-day. Bringing awareness to world issues pertaining to women, their most intimate truths, and specifically for this V-day, their vagina's! Some of the monologues are based on one woman’s personal story, some of the monologues are based on several women’s stories surrounding the same theme, and, a few times, a good idea becomes an outrageous one! The monologues lead to a celebration of women and a special sharing, at times bringing up painful moments but even the brutality is not without light. This play stands as a great contribution to women around the world. It helps us to peel back the layers and taboo’s around the female body in a way that we can relate to …with humour! A popular question, Eve Enlser, asks is, ‘If your vagina could talk, what would it say?’
(Men, are of course, still very much loved and most welcome!)

*All profits go to charity: RAPE CRISIS, MOSIAC, Western Cape Network on Violence Against Women.

Audience Responses

Very good, we’ve seen the VM’s in the UK a couple of times. On both occasions 2000 seat theatres. The Alex is such a great place, top, quality entertainment, great performances in an intimate environment at a very affordable price. This was the first of three events at The Alexthis month, I gave my wife a gift token for Christmas and she’s a very happy girl to visit on a regular basis!

Amazing performance. As one of just 3 men of the approximately 50 audience members, I found this eye-opening and superbly delivered, but also harrowing at times, very funny at other times and it certainly helped my understanding of women and all things vagina-related! I'd recommend this to everyone, but it would be great if more men would attend this show in future. Another in a long line of great Alexander Bar productions.
