Bryan Miles is performing “Obsessions of a Thought Reader”, at Alexander Upstairs from the 9th to the 12th of September.
Tell us a little more about your show?
From a young age I was always obsessed with taking things apart – I wanted to know HOW and WHY things work. This led me to realize that everything we experience in life takes place in our minds. “Obsessions of a Thought Reader” sees me sharing some of my unique obsessions with the audience. In the first five minutes of the show I will make a career-threating decision based on the actions of someone from the audience. I don’t read thoughts, I read people.
And what’s next on the cards for you?
A clothing line and men’s fragrance. But, seriously – I have a book coming out next year
And the project you’re dreaming of?
Perhaps a sequel to the book I just wrote.
How did you get into magic?
From a young age I was always obsessed with the human mind. I realized very early on that our minds can easily be fooled. I made it my job to showcase the unlimited potential of the human mind in a theatrical manner.
Dinner with any two figures from history: who would you invite and what would you serve them?
Carl Sagan – Traditional New York Pizza (Pepperoni)
Walt Disney – Boerewors roll and slapchips
Favorite spot in Cape Town (besides Alexander Bar, obviously)?
Love the Baxter Theatre.
What excites you about theatre?
Every night is different. When you work with the human equation – expect the unexpected. I also love to inspire people with my art.
What mistakes have you made and learned the most from?
I once drank an entire Dr Pepper right before a show – I had a hard time trying not to burp throughout the show. Now I only take a few sips of Dr Pepper and drink water on stage.
Who do you think people should be talking about?
The Brothers Streep – most talented/creative musical duo from CT (Tightest harmonies you will ever hear!)
