Gemma Griffiths will performing live music at Alexander Upstairs, on 12 June at 7PM
Tell us a little more about your show?
It will contain original indie/folk tunes, soft, different and full of soul.
And what’s next on the cards for you?
A debut EP to be released later this year, ad spending some more time in Cape Town.
And the project you’re dreaming of?
The EP has really taken my creative streak by storm. I’ve also been experimenting with some interesting covers – check out my interpretation of Winky D’s ‘Musarova Bigman’ on YouTube.
How did you get into music?
It was always there – I feel like it was just built into my soul.
Dinner with any two figures from history: who would you invite and what would you serve them?
Nelson Mandela and Etta James – I’d do a chicken curry! Yum 🙂
Favorite spot in Cape Town (besides Alexander Bar, obviously)?
Piano Bar, and my back garden – a little piece of paradise 🙂
What excites you about music?
Music can connect. It can reach so far into your sou, change your mood, your day… It is inspiring, comforting and undeniably the way to start a day.
What mistakes have you made and learned the most from?
Don’t try to sound like someone else – our beauty is in our uniqueness.
Who do you think people should be talking about?
In London – Samm Henshaw… In Cape Town – Paige Mac.
