Tel Aviv. I came to South Africa when I was about 8.
Tell us a little more about your show?
The cornerstone of this show is what I call The FabuKak Balance of Life. The show is about the everyday life stuff that everyone experiences, but related through my own (sometimes jaundiced, sometimes jaded) point of view. I laugh at life because surely this is all a joke, right? And I sing songs because I can, and because I think they’re funny.
And what’s next on the cards for you?
I am shooting my first YouTube series soon. I’m not spilling beans, but I will let you know when we post episode one of #HowToSurviveYourLife. I am also planning my big Jozi adventure – am heading up there after the Grahamstown Festival, to do the clubs, and get my name out there! Wish me luck.
And the project you’re dreaming of?
The project is ongoing. The project is Keep On Keeping On. The project is getting myself face to face with as many audiences as possible.
How did you get into theatre?
I just did it. No one would put me in their shows, so I wrote my first one-woman show, A Barstool Named Desire, and I just. Did. It.
Dinner with any two figures from history: who would you invite and what would you serve them?
RuPaul. History be damed, RuPaul is HERstory in the making! And from history, give me a dinner with sober Amy Winehouse, so I can pick her brain for the show I’m planning for next year: The Addicted Divas.
Favorite spot in Cape Town (besides Alexander Bar, obviously)?
IS there any other spot worth mentioning? But seriously, my favorite spot is my balcony as the sun rises and again when it sets, with my cats and the sound of the ocean. Sure, the ocean is really faint, but hey, I catch my blessings where I can!
What excites you about theatre (or music/burlesque/magic/etc)?
It is an extreme sport. Is there anything more exciting (and by exciting you mean terrifying, right?) than taking that leap into the spotlight with nothing more than your wits (and your tits, let’s face it, but let me keep it tidy here) as a bungee cord?
What mistakes have you made and learned the most from?
Daniel, Jeff and Mark. And Kenneth, of course.
Who do you think people should be talking about? (chance to punt other artists)
Rob Van Vuuren, ladies and gentlemen! His show, Life, is on at the Baxter for one more week. SEE IT!
