Megan Furniss is the director of Violet online: Love me Tinder, on at Alexander Upstairs from 18-30 April.
Cape Town (from Jozi)
And what’s next on the cards for you?
(Violet Online Rebooted, more improv, a screenplay and hopefully a chance to tread the boards in a traditional play.
And the project you’re dreaming of?
I wrote a play a few years ago. I keep fantasising about the production as if someone would magically say that they would produce it.
How did you get into theatre?
I was lucky. I discovered there was a drama teacher living across the road when I was 7.
Dinner with any two figures from history: who would you invite and what would you serve them?
Does David Bowie count? I would serve him delicious vegetarian food and pink wine, and maybe some dagga cookies, for the old days. And Chaucer, for the rude jokes and laughs, although I am sure he would hate the food.
Favorite spot in Cape Town (besides Alexander Bar, obviously)?
Camps Bay beach with dogs on a Sunday morning
What excites you about theatre ?
The accident of it.
What mistakes have you made and learned the most from?
Never make the kind of theatre you THINK an audience wants or likes. They won’t.
Who do you think people should be talking about?
Koleka Putuma, Thando Doni, Caroline Calburn, Mkhuseli Tafane.
