Shimmy Isaacs will be performing Untitled at Alexander Upstairs from 4 – 23 April.
Tell us a little more about your show?
This stand up show is about change and how I have changed. I am adjusting to my early 30s and it’s not easy as I have become obsessed with youthfulness. Learning from past mistakes, finding laughter in those times of hecticness, learning how to move on from an Old self into New self. My new way of life makes me less of an Afrikaner now that I don’t eat bread??
And what’s next on the cards for you?
The second season of my Afrikaans show ‘Ken Jy My’. I will also be working with Whack Management productions, creating an Afrikaans comedy show with John Vlismas and his team. There is some drama on the way as well so whatch this space.
How did you get into theatre?
It was easy, I studied. I have a post graduate degree from Afda and an international certificate from Black Nexxus New York, so I am doing what I am trained to do?
Dinner with any two figures from history: who would you invite and what would you serve them?
Dinner with two people who changed the world through their art. Nina Simone and Michael Jackson. I would serve fish and veg.
Favorite spot in Cape Town (besides Alexander Bar, obviously)?
Lionshead is one of my favourite spots. No view comes close to it.
What excites you about theatre?
The intimacy of theatre. Inviting people into the world of the performer.
What mistakes have you made and learned the most from?
Biggest mistake was not wearing high heels from an earlier age. I could have changed my perspective years ago ?
